  • Early morning smiles from my kids when they just get out of bed.
  • That sometimes, just being yourself can bless and encourage someone.
  • Cuddling up on the couch to read books together.
  • The Girl washing a pear for Little.
  • The obvious delight on Little's face when she says good morning to the Girl.
  • The Girl's sleep crumples hair standing on end.
  • Conversations with Aaron after a successful day.
  • Quiet time! When they are actually quiet.
  • Crickets chirping outside my window as I fall asleep.
  • Clouds and cool breezes.
  • Not enough dirty laundry for a full load.
  • A doll house on loan from a friend that has the girl's enthralled.
  • Sun showers and rainbows.
  • Long walks together when we're not in a hurry.
  • Picnics at the park.
  • Banana loaf.
  • Sisters in law who are fun to be with.
  • Paint, in rich, warm cheerful colors.
  • My kids tucked into bed in the Sukkah at Beema's house, trying to find stars.

    Carrien. . . . this was the day after I lost my baby. We, too, celebrate Sukkot and had planned for a week of special times with friends. Needless to say, it didn't happen. I'm still sad about it all. :(

Once upon a time, before this new child took my body hostage and threatened unpleasant and painful results if I did not satisfy its demands for food every single hour of the day, I used to exercise. One Year Reflections

Our one year anniversary in Thailand came and went more than a month ago. I think we were in the middle of hosting volunteers and dealing with gastro intestinal issues, something we do on a fairly regular basis living here, so we didn't even mark the occasion until later. We've been here one whole year! I've barely blogged.* There are dozens of hundreds of unfinished stories to tell. I think Instagram has eaten my blog a little. I let the pictures to the story telling work for me, and then I feel like I'm done, like the story is told, even though there is much more to tell. Also, we had intolerably slow internet for most of the year. It's hard to blog when it takes hours for your pictures to load. The company that we asked to come out, when we first moved to our house last August, told us we would have to wait until they completed a big government contract. The Eve Tree

Rachel Devenish Ford and I traveled in overlapping circles for a few years before we actually met. I knew who she was long before she knew me, I think. She has a kind of presence, a look, a quiet, graceful way of moving through a crowd that makes you stop and watch her, just because. That of course will embarrass her to read because she's quite shy and introverted and often wishes she was invisible. She will probably flatly deny that she is graceful, but she is one of the most graceful women I know all the way through. She is also the reason Aaron and I found ourselves all alone in the middle of the desert within a week of meeting each other. You can tell by the way she writes how carefully she observes people. She knew, before I did really, that it was important for Aaron and I to have some time together for a while.
